Essential Information
- Google has announced the v3.33 update for the Home app on Android, addressing a significant user complaint.
- The camera timeline within the Home app is now more responsive while scrubbing, leading to fewer freezes and reduced loading times.
- This update also includes multiple bug fixes for users.
For smart home enthusiasts, Google is releasing an update today (June 16) to kick off your week positively.
The tech giant shared that this update is primarily the result of extensive user feedback regarding the Home app’s camera timeline. In a community announcement, Google explains that v3.33 is now being rolled out on Android and will resolve the issues of lag and low FPS that users previously faced. Specifically, Google states that v3.33 dramatically enhances framerate and loading performance for users.
Now, users should find scrolling through the camera timeline to access past events much smoother. The improvements made to the video timeline scrubbing should help users more easily identify significant moments, whereas the previous laggy experience made this harder.
Google mentions that this update reduces timeline loading times and minimizes “frozen” moments.
The Home app update introduces a “limited access member tier,” allowing homeowners to “invite” individuals into their smart home ecosystem with customizable permissions. Users can determine what others can access, modify, or control, including automations and more.
Ongoing (Smart) Home Enhancements
The complete patch notes for v3.33 include several bug fixes. Users with iOS devices can expect these updates in a future release.

- Wi-Fi category crash: Fixed an issue causing a crash upon entering the Wi-Fi category.
- Climate category crash: Fixed a crash when accessing the Climate category.
- Notifications crash: Resolved a crash linked to notification permissions.
- Invite limits error: Fixed an error that appeared when inviting a 5th household member, even when below the limit.

During I/O 2025 last month, Google revealed plans for its smart home environment, including a “summaries” test and the Gemini project. The company has begun a limited test for its “Home Summary” widget, which provides a quick overview of events that occurred at home while you were away, such as package deliveries and smart device routines.
A select group of Pixel users participated in this test before its official release (whenever Google completes the process).
Additionally, Gemini has been incorporated into the app to enhance routine creation capabilities. Users can interact with Gemini to generate automated routines tailored to their preferences.
