UPDATE
CarPlay Ultra, the latest version of CarPlay, is now beginning its rollout.
This upgraded version merges the features of the iPhone with the car for a seamless experience, initially launching in Aston Martin vehicles.
As of today, CarPlay Ultra is available for new Aston Martin orders in the U.S. and Canada, and will soon be accessible for existing models equipped with the brand’s next-generation infotainment system through a software update. This new iteration enhances CarPlay’s capabilities, creating a fully integrated in-car experience that showcases both iPhone functionality and automotive features. It provides real-time data across all driver displays, including gauges in the instrument cluster, and allows customization to align with each automaker’s aesthetics. Many international automakers, including Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis, are also working towards making CarPlay Ultra available for their drivers.
“CarPlay has fundamentally transformed how iPhone users interact with their vehicles,” stated Bob Borchers, Apple’s VP of Worldwide Product Marketing. “With CarPlay Ultra, we’re redefining the in-car experience in collaboration with automakers, enhancing unity and consistency. This next-generation platform offers smarter and safer iPhone usage inside the car while closely integrating with vehicle systems and representing each manufacturer’s unique design. We’re excited to launch CarPlay Ultra with Aston Martin and anticipate expanding this innovation with additional brands soon.”
Enhanced Integration
CarPlay Ultra brings content to all driver displays, including customizable options for the speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, and temperature gauge, creating a cohesive driving experience. Drivers can access iPhone features like navigation and music alongside vital car information, such as driver assistance systems and tire pressure, directly on the instrument panel.
The system allows drivers to control both standard vehicle functions (like radio and climate controls) and more advanced features using either on-screen controls, physical buttons, or Siri, ensuring a smooth and integrated experience. CarPlay Ultra also introduces iPhone-powered widgets that seamlessly adapt to the car’s display or gauge cluster, presenting information at a glance.
Tailor-Made Designs for Each Brand
CarPlay Ultra enables automakers to showcase their unique design philosophies, collaborating closely with Apple to craft custom themes that resonate with their customer base. This results in experiences tailored to each vehicle, including personalization options for colors and wallpapers.
“Aston Martin is thrilled to partner with Apple as the first to unveil CarPlay Ultra,” stated Adrian Hallmark, Aston Martin’s CEO. “Our commitment to exceptional performance extends beyond traditional metrics; the integration of CarPlay Ultra exemplifies our dedication to collaborating with the best to enhance our customers’ in-car experiences. This integration, paired with our cutting-edge infotainment system, will provide enhanced functionality and personalization, placing Aston Martin at the forefront of automotive infotainment.”
CarPlay Ultra, which builds on the beloved CarPlay platform, continues to transform how drivers interact safely and intelligently with their vehicles. Just like its predecessor, robust privacy measures inherent to the iPhone apply to CarPlay Ultra.
