“Ice Dive” plunges viewers into the icy depths of the Arctic as a diver challenges a world record, captured for Apple Vision Pro.
Apple Vision Pro has been slowly introducing content tailored for its unique 180-degree 8K immersive video format. Shows like “Wild Life” and “Prehistoric Planet” have released a handful of episodes, though at an irregular pace.
The newest episode from the series “Adventure”, titled “Ice Dive”, submerges viewers underwater. Unlike the “Sharks” episode from “Wild Life”, this one is set in the freezing waters of the Arctic.
Each episode of “Adventure” showcases daring feats by athletes and explorers. “Ice Dive” follows Ant Williams as he attempts to break the world record for the longest distance swum under ice in a single breath.
Apple Vision Pro made its debut in February 2024 as an early glimpse of upcoming technology. While Apple continues to enhance visionOS and release new media for the headset, it may not yet justify the $3,500 price tag for most consumers.
One promising development for more frequent content is the introduction of Blackmagic’s new $30,000 camera for capturing immersive video. This will allow professional studios beyond Apple’s own to produce content specifically for Apple Vision Pro.
Currently, there are limited experiences available, such as being in a studio with Alicia Keys, soaring in hot air balloons, or riding in an ambulance through a music video. The most substantial piece of content is “Submerged”, a 16-minute short film set on a World War II submarine.
As Apple continues to promote Apple Vision Pro and gears up for a new release, it will strive to offer a wide range of content. After nearly a year on the market, the library may still feel lacking, considering new users could watch all the immersive videos in about 2 hours.
