- Samsung has initiated a test today (Dec 20) via the “Display Assistant beta” app through its Galaxy Lab test environment.
- The app provides various display options that allow users to have full control over adaptive brightness, refresh rate, and more.
- Samsung has given its testers a second One UI 7 beta, which includes numerous fixes for issues.
As Samsung continues to work on its next major OS, a new app test is giving users enhanced control over their Galaxy phone’s display.
Renowned tipster Ice Universe noticed a new app within Samsung’s Galaxy Labs test environment called “Display Assistant beta” (via SamMobile). At first look, the app appears to offer users complete control over their device’s display to customize its behavior for each app. The test introduces several features for users to explore, such as “brightness limit profile.”
This feature gives users the option of choosing between standard and light. The standard setting will reduce brightness when the device gets hot, while the light setting will maintain brightness but allow the device to cool down slower.
Another option is the “standard refresh rate,” which limits certain apps to a refresh rate of “60Hz per second to save power.”
The tipster from X highlighted several other key features of the Display Assistant beta, including “Curtain mode,” “One click screen on for 30 minutes,” and the ability to control the adaptive brightness of the Galaxy device. The in-app description mentions that adaptive brightness adjusts the display based on the user’s surroundings.
With a speed set at 2x, users can adjust the adaptive brightness by sliding the bubble on the slider to 1x or 4x.

In summary, these features can impact the power of your Galaxy phone as adjusting brightness or limiting the refresh rate can alleviate stress on the battery. Samsung has just launched this Display Assistant beta through Galaxy Labs, but it is only available for One UI 7 (specifically v7.0.12). Those participating in the OS beta can likely access this and start experimenting.
In other news, the second beta for One UI 7 has just been launched for enrolled testers in the program. The beta update is rolling out to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, as well as other devices in the S24 series. Testers will receive a 1GB download containing bug fixes for various One UI issues and malfunctions. One area getting fixed is the Now Bar, where users reported a persistent display error.
Furthermore, the Korean manufacturer has outlined what users can expect from One UI 7 upon its release. Samsung intends for the Now Bar to be a helpful, curated app assistant on the lock screen. The upcoming software will also introduce a “Personal Data Engine” to help users leverage the on-device AI with enhanced privacy and security.
