The Voice Memos app, beloved by musicians, has introduced a new feature for iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max users that allows them to overlay a vocal track onto an existing instrumental recording — no headphones required. With the release of iOS 18.2, users can now play their original instrumental ideas through the iPhone speaker while simultaneously recording vocals using the enhanced studio-quality microphones found in the iPhone 16 Pro models.
Thanks to the power of the A18 Pro chip, Voice Memos utilizes advanced processing and machine learning technology to effectively isolate vocal recordings. This results in two individual tracks, enabling users to perform further mixing and production in professional applications like Logic Pro. Additionally, Layered Recordings synced with Voice Memos on Mac can be easily dragged and dropped into a Logic session, maintaining seamless integration across devices.
With Voice Memos, users can easily layer various background instrumentals, such as acoustic guitar or piano, as the base track. Artists and producers can also send a compressed audio file of their instrumental mix directly to Voice Memos, allowing for convenient vocal recording anytime inspiration strikes.
A trio of GRAMMY Award winners — multiplatinum artist Michael Bublé, country sensation Carly Pearce, and renowned producer Greg Wells — recently collaborated to create their new holiday song “Maybe This Christmas” using Voice Memos on the iPhone 16 Pro. In an exclusive behind-the-scenes video, they share their creative process and explain how the updated Voice Memos feature enabled them to capture their vocals entirely on the iPhone 16 Pro.
