Samsung is gearing up for the launch of its Galaxy S25 series, expected to take place in January 2025. In addition to the anticipated trio of handsets, a recent report suggests that Samsung may also introduce smart glasses next month.
A report from Korean news outlet Yonhapnews, shared by tipster Jukanlosreve on X, suggests that Samsung might showcase a preview of its first augmented reality (AR) glasses at the upcoming Galaxy S25 series Unpacked Event. This preview could be in the form of a short video or image reveal, similar to how Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Ring during its 2024 Unpacked Event.

The upcoming smart glasses are expected to compete with Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses and will be built on Samsung’s Extended Reality (XR) platform, which may also be demonstrated at the Unpacked event. The Korean outlet suggests that the smart glasses will weigh around 50 grams and will have features like AI, gesture recognition, and face recognition for payments.
While we may get a glimpse of the smart glasses at the Unpacked event, including a prototype, the official release is planned for the third quarter of 2025, according to the Korean publication. It is unclear whether these smart glasses are the rumored ones developed in partnership with Google and Qualcomm.
Samsung’s smart glasses were previously trademarked at the Intellectual Property Office in the U.K., alongside categories like “Virtual reality headsets; Augmented reality headsets; Headphones; Smartphones; Smart glasses.”
An alleged prototype was spotted before the launch of Apple Vision Pro, featuring micro OLED displays powered by the Exynos 2200 chip and eye-tracking cameras. However, it was reportedly scrapped after the Vision Pro’s launch.
