Reports indicate that the planned sequel to the Apple TV+ original movie “Wolfs” has been canceled, signaling a shift in Apple’s movie strategy.

In an interview with Deadline, writer/director Jon Watts mentioned, “I don’t know what I’m directing next, and I don’t think there’s going to be a ‘Wolfs’ sequel.”

Despite the cancellation, the sequel “Wolfs 2” was intended to address the negative publicity Apple faced over its treatment of the first movie. Stars George Clooney and Brad Pitt had agreed to pay cuts for a wider theatrical release, which was later scaled back by Apple.

Although “Wolfs” became the most-watched Apple TV+ original film at the time, Apple’s decision to scale back its movie slate following costly failures like “Killers of the Flower Moon” affected the sequel’s future.

Apple is reportedly evaluating the performance of its upcoming release “F1,” starring Brad Pitt, in theaters in summer 2025. Depending on the outcome, Apple may shift its focus to lower-budget films or acquiring finished movies instead of high-cost productions.

One of Apple’s previous acquisitions, the critically acclaimed 2022 film “CODA,” received the first-ever Best Picture Oscar for a streaming service.
