Google’s latest major AI venture has completed testing and is now available to more Workspace users. The company has announced the “general availability” of its AI-powered video creation app, Google Vids. Users can easily create videos by leveraging its AI model Gemini for assistance. The app offers generative AI features through its “help me create” button. One notable aspect of Google Vids is its range of templates.

Clicking “help me create” will provide assistance from Gemini based on the user’s work. Google mentions that its AI software can suggest a script for use or as inspiration. The templates mentioned by Google are tailored for different usage scenarios, allowing Workspace users to find designs suitable for ads, meetings, and more. These templates can be found in the sidebar, offering a foundation for users to build upon with various animations and transitions.

The app also features a built-in recording studio for users to record themselves, narration, screen recordings, or audio. While Google Vids heavily relies on AI assistance, Gemini can create voice-overs for users, available at the bottom of the script panel.

Google also informs Workspace users interested in the Vids app that certain AI-powered features like “help me create” and AI voice-overs are free until December 31, 2025, with a possible limit on these features after 2026. The company will provide further updates on this if necessary.

The expansion of Google Vids includes various Workspace subscription plans such as Business (Standard/Plus), Enterprise (Standard/Plus), Education Plus, Essentials, Enterprise Essentials, and Enterprise Essentials Plus, as well as the Gemini add-ons targeting Business, Enterprise, Education, and Education Premium users.

The rollout of the feature has begun and is expected to be completed within 15 days.

Google initially introduced its Vids app for Workspace at the Cloud Next 2024 event in April, followed by a testing phase starting in the summer. The app was described as an AI-backed tool for generating storyboards with a wide range of editing and stylizing options. Gemini was highlighted for providing additional suggestions for users struggling to choose between stock videos, images, and background music.

Moreover, Google Vids offers a “View and Collaborate” feature, allowing other Workspace users to join and collaborate on projects. There is also a “create and copy” option, although this is limited to select editions, according to Google.
