OnePlus has just released the OnePlus 13 in China, with plans for the phone to be available in global markets in the coming weeks. While the focus is on the OnePlus 13, I’m already looking forward to what OnePlus has in store for the OnePlus 14 in 2025.
Phone launch cycles typically span 12 to 15 months, so OnePlus is already working on the OnePlus 14, even though details won’t be revealed for some time. Key decisions, such as choosing between Qualcomm or MediaTek and selecting camera modules, are made months in advance. Given the interest in OnePlus leaks, we should expect more information on this soon.
With that said, let’s discuss what we can expect to remain the same with the OnePlus 14, as well as potential areas for improvement.
OnePlus 14: What’s likely to be the same
OnePlus has traditionally used Qualcomm hardware in its flagship devices, and it’s unlikely that this will change with the OnePlus 14. While OPPO has shifted to MediaTek with the Find X8 and X8 Pro, these devices won’t be released in North America. Given OnePlus’s strong presence in the region, it’s doubtful that the brand would switch to anything other than Qualcomm.
OnePlus has collaborated with BOE to customize AMOLED panels for its recent devices, and this partnership is expected to continue with the OnePlus 14. The OnePlus 13 utilized the same panel as the OnePlus 12, so it’s probable that the OnePlus 14 will see some improvements in this area.
Most manufacturers are transitioning to silicon-carbon batteries in 2025, and the OnePlus 13 is no exception, featuring a large 6000mAh battery. While the increased density makes it an appealing choice for devices, the absence of dual battery cells impacts charging speed. Like previous OnePlus models, the OnePlus 13 supports up to 100W charging, but it may take longer to charge the battery. It’s likely that there will be no changes in this aspect with the OnePlus 14.
OnePlus 14: What might be different
While details on the design of the OnePlus 14 are scarce, some users were not fond of the flatter sides introduced with the OnePlus 13. OnePlus phones have typically featured a design with smooth curves, but the OnePlus 13 has a bulkier look. It’s possible that the OnePlus 14 will receive upgrades in the camera department, as the OnePlus 13 retained the same 50MP main camera as the previous model. A higher-resolution sensor, such as the 1-inch sensor used in other flagship devices, may make its way to the OnePlus 14 in 2025.
OnePlus 14: Launch date
OnePlus typically unveils its latest flagship in China in Q4 2024, with a global launch following in the next quarter. Following the same timeline, we can expect the OnePlus 14 to be announced in October or November 2025, with a global launch in early 2026.
Given the noticeable price increase of the OnePlus 13, it’s possible that the OnePlus 14 will be priced similarly. However, pricing decisions are usually made closer to the release date, so we’ll have to wait for more concrete details. I’ll be sure to update this post with more information on the OnePlus 14 as it becomes available.
