In a landscape cluttered with abandoned hardware and unfulfilled promises, the NVIDIA SHIELD TV shines as a product that has received an exceptional level of attention and care from its creators. Despite being in existence for over 7 years, NVIDIA continues to release updates for the device, albeit at longer intervals.
This week, NVIDIA has unveiled a new update for the SHIELD TV, called SHIELD Experience Upgrade 9.1.1+ HotFix. This release, the first in over a year, addresses a number of bugs and issues, totaling to at least 10. Previous updates, including a HotFix in July 2023 and a general release in March 2023, have paved the way for this latest update.
The full changelog for this new update, labeled as build 33.2.0.252 or “Second HotFix,” includes enhancements to the Match Frame Rate feature, fixes for issues such as SHIELD drive filling up and audio problems when a headset is connected to the controller. Additionally, improvements have been made to Geforce Now stability, HDMI flag clearing, video display modes, and more.
As this update is classified as a “HotFix,” it will not be immediately available to all users. NVIDIA typically rolls out these updates to select customers who are eager to try out the latest fixes. Once enrolled in the HotFix program, users will remain on these specific builds until the next public release. While there may be some risk associated with joining the program, the fixes included in this update do not seem to be major.
