Satellite SOS is now accessible on Pixel 9 smartphones, with a complimentary two-year subscription.

Notifications are now being sent to Pixel 9 devices in the US, alerting owners that the new Satellite SOS feature is now accessible. This feature allows users to contact emergency services through communication satellites if they are out of cell service, similar to how iPhone users can do so.

Google has outlined three steps in the settings menu for this feature: users should first attempt to contact EMS through mobile or WiFi connection, answer specific questions about the emergency to ensure the right responders arrive, and then connect to the satellite to provide their GPS location and information.

Users can also add emergency contacts and prepare their Google account information for sharing via Satellite SOS. It is recommended to have this information readily available in case of an emergency.

For Pixel 9 buyers, Google is offering the Satellite SOS service free for two years. The cost of the service after the free period has not been disclosed.
