There have been significant upgrades made to the Pixel 9 setup process.

Upon receiving Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL orders, the setup process will commence, allowing you to transfer all data from your old phone to the new one. Google has made significant improvements to the setup process for this launch, introducing some exciting new features. Googler Paul Dunlop shared details on Twitter about their “biggest release ever” regarding the Setup and Data Transfer process. One of the standout features is the ability to initiate data transfer at any time, not just during setup or within a few days. Additional changes have also been made, so let’s go through a list of updates.

According to Dunlop, here are the new features in the Pixel setup process:
– “Transfer data later”: A new option called “Back up or copy data” in Settings allows you to back up data or copy it from another device. This can be helpful if you encounter issues during setup, and you can transfer data from the old device as many times as needed.
– “Express setup”: A new Express option provides an estimated time to set up the new device quickly using cloud data to speed up the process.
– “Backup in setup”: A screen for backup settings now appears in the setup process, allowing you to start backing up your device immediately.
– “Messages transfer is upgraded”: Transferring messages to the new phone is now more robust, ensuring a full history transfer from cable or WiFi.
– “More settings preferences retained”: More system settings, permissions, and notification preferences are transferred to the new phone, saving time and effort in logging back into apps.
– “Multiplexing transfers with WiFi x cable”: If you start a WiFi transfer, you can connect a USB-C cable mid-transfer to increase transfer speeds.
– “Other upgrades”: More eSIM carriers will be available soon, WiFi data transfers are faster and more reliable, and features like Quick Share and Car Crash Detection can be activated during setup.
