Get ready for a change in how you use your Pixel Buds when Gemini comes to town. Your usual “Hey Google” command is about to get an upgrade.

As Google transitions everyone to Gemini as the on-device Assistant, Pixel Buds owners are receiving an email explaining the changes ahead. The “Hey Google” setting for Pixel Buds is now integrated with the connected Android phone’s settings, simplifying the process of using voice commands with earbuds. Gemini will soon be available on Pixel Buds as the default assistant, but some features may work differently compared to the previous Assistant setup. To use Gemini with Pixel Buds, the phone must be unlocked and connected initially, and reactivating the experience later may require unlocking the phone again. The Pixel Buds app offers a setting for this under Digital Assistant. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out for more information.
