You can now use Google’s Circle to Search feature as your barcode and QR code scanner.

What you Need to Know

  • Circle to Search now automatically scans barcodes and QR codes, making information retrieval quicker.
  • The AI visual lookup feature scans QR codes and barcodes through the viewfinder and displays a chip with a direct website link.
  • Available on compatible Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy phones, you can activate it by long-pressing the home button or navigation handle.

Google’s Circle to Search now has the ability to scan barcodes and QR codes automatically, providing a faster and more convenient way to access the information you need.

The new AI visual lookup feature allows you to scan QR codes and barcodes directly through the viewfinder. It will even show a chip with a direct link to the website, as reported by Mishaal Rahman on X (via Android Authority).

Circle to Search functions as a smart visual search tool, analyzing the content on your screen and providing information based on what you select or circle. Additionally, if QR codes are visible on your screen, the feature will automatically scan them without any manual intervention required.

The feature displays convenient chips with URLs, making it easy to directly access the desired website. Google initially introduced this functionality in July, and it is now expanding to more devices, including the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Once a URL appears, you can simply tap the link to visit the website. This eliminates the need to manually circle QR codes, saving time when accessing multiple links.

As demonstrated by Rahman, when visiting a website with a QR code, Circle to Search quickly converts it into a clickable URL.

Although it may seem like a minor update, this enhancement significantly improves the user experience by streamlining the process, resulting in quicker and more convenient data access.

This feature is gradually rolling out to users with compatible Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy phones. To test it out, simply visit a webpage or open an image with a QR code, then long-press the home button or navigation handle to activate Circle to Search.

This update aligns with Google’s efforts to enhance Circle to Search. A recent addition is the Share button, making it easy to share selected content with your contacts.
